Tuesday Tip: SPF Everyday
Each Tuesday I bring you one of my best insider beauty and fashion tips that any busy woman can actually execute in the comfort of her own home. AKA “US – we’re just like celebrities! ” Since this is my first Tuesday Tip as a 40 year old (and I’m writing from Sun Peaks), this week I’m reminding everyone about age-freezing SPF.
As most non-celebrity plastic surgery tends to start between the ages of 40 and 50, it seems to me that freezing aging now is the priorty for most women, and I agree. I have no desire to turn back the clock. I have earned my 40 years and am proud of them. I want to be 40. I want to look 40. I have a 9 year old – so I have no desire to look 25.
But I have to admit that it would be nice to turn 50 and have people say, “wow, no way!”. (I also have to admit I expected more of that response to this milestone . . .).
So I am slathering on SPF – more seriously on days I am outside most of the day (55 on days I’m out in the snow in Sun Peaks) and just built-in SPF everyday (15 to 30 everyday even though I live in Seattle). If there’s one thing I wish I had done earlier in my life it’s using SPF. Yes, I didn’t wash my face religiously in my 20s, but that doen’t have a lasting impact. Failure to use sunscreen does.
So sunscreen up everyone. And see you at my 50th.

Hi Jane!
Great post! This is really informative because I am 22 and often take my skin for granted.
I had a question regarding this post: Would you recommend someone at my age to start using something like “Olay Age-Defying mask” at night? Or is it too early to use products like these?
